Google has rolled out a ‘people card’ feature in India. The company has made it live for Indian users searching on mobile phones in English starting today.
This feature has been rolled out with an aim to help people increase their online presence, especially those who are just starting to use it and many not even have a website as of now. Touted as a virtual visiting card, these ‘people cards’ can be used by internet users to highlight their contact details such as social profiles and any other information about themselves that they want to make public.
For the millions of influencers, entrepreneurs, prospective employees, self-employed individuals, freelancers, or anyone else out there who wants to be discovered, we hope this new Search feature will help the world find them,” said Google in a blog post.
These people cards will appear as part of search results only when users try to find someone on Search. When users search for someone’s name and there’s a card available, they will see a module with the name, profession and location, which they can tap to see their card. In case there are multiple cards with the same name, users will see multiple modules, and the subsequent information can help users distinguish between the different individuals to find who they are looking for.
