The protests over the amended Citizenship law that initially began in the northeast has spilled in at least 10 states across the country. Amid the increasing protests, authorities have shut down internet services in several towns in Uttar Pradesh and Karnataka to prevent misuse of social media platforms and for maintaining law-and-order situation. Mobile internet services have been suspended in the violence-hit Mangaluru in Karnataka's Dakshina Kannada district for 48 hours from Thursday night after two persons died in police firing and 20 policemen were injured.The law promises citizenship to migrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who moved to India by 2014. Critics say it challenges the foundations of India's secular constitution by making religion a criterion for citizenship.Meanwhile, 3,037 Facebook posts, 1,786 Twitter posts and 38 Youtube videos (scenes of violence) were deleted since Thursday evening across the state, police added.This has been done after Thursday's protests over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) turned violent in Lucknow and Sambhal and led to large scale destruction of public and private property.
